Lexington Center (Massachusetts)

Lexington Center, or to locals often called the Center, is the popular nickname given to the downtown area of Lexington, Massachusetts on Massachusetts Avenue. It is home to numerous dining opportunities, fine arts galleries, retail shopping, a small cinema, the Cary Memorial Library, and many historical landmarks, including the Lexington Battle Green.

History

The area has had several hotels in its history. However, none exist today in the downtown area.[1] There is a building, known as "the Depot," which once was a train station.[1] In place of the train, the Minuteman Bikeway runs today.

The most well-known historic landmark in the center is the Lexington Battle Green.[1] It is the location of the first part of the Battle of Lexington and Concord, and the first shots of the American Revolutionary war.
